Summertime doggy icecream.
Somewhere in the dim recesses of my mind ( and believe me I can get dim at times) is a thing that sayes 'frozen is not good for dogs'. However, sometimes in summer when the pressure is on, I have been known to give my dogs a frozen bone, which has not killed anyone yet. My dogs live long healthy lives most of the time. The dog that loved frozen bones was Awa the Labrador who finally needed a bit of a suggestion that her time was up at 16. So I dunno whether it is true or not.
I do find that my dogs love their bones off the barbecue when everyone else is having a bit of charred steak as well and I know that charring is a carcinogenous thing with meat, but that hasn't killed any of my dogs either. The only dog who did not like barbecued bones died aged eight years with a tumour behind her eye.
So I believe the Jury is Out on what constitutes right and wrong in dog food. I wouldn't mind betting that a fair bit of food fed to sled dogs in Alaska is frozen, and likewise I fancy that some of the offal eating wild dogs get stuff that has much turned the corner on a human scale of edible while living on the edge of the desert. However I am having a bit of fun and being facetious here, not entirely scientific you choose but it does sound like fun.
FROSTY DOG TREATS.
250mls of vanilla yoghurt 1 mashed banana 2 tbsp peanut butter 2 tbsp honey
whip together or blend in blender and freeze in either cupcake paper cups or in icecube trays.
microwave for 6 seconds before serving....
What do you think. I haven't tried it yet but I wouldn't mind betting the dogs will wolf it down. Might make a good substitute breakfast for summer.
Hey what about catering for a Doggy Birthday Party at least...
